Questars winter series
the story of the series

Our Cotswolds race brought to an end our first ever Winter Series! We would like to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone who has come out to race with us and support our events. In total we had 420 different racers during the Series with an incredible fifteen completing all four events and fifty completing three events.

We started the series in glorious sunshine with autumnal colours in the South Downs and ended under glorious sunshine and the first signs of spring in the Cotswolds. We were lucky with the weather with three dry days but Berkshire more than made up for it with crazy rain and some of the biggest (and deepest) puddles we’ve ever seen! You can read the individual race reports for the South Downs, Berkshire, Chilterns and Cotswolds on the individual pages.

Throughout the Series, there was terrific racing with close finishes and great competition. Helen Chapman and Campbell Walsh won the overall female and open Winter Series respectively. They are both multi-winning Summer Series Champions and once again engrave their names onto our Champions’ fingerpost and into the Questars’ history books!

Female Category

There was all to play for in the Female Category going into the last race of the Series but Helen Chapman had the race of her life to win the Series with a total of 2003 points. Emma Gill had another terrific Series to finish in second place overall on 1,854 points. Emma is our reigning Summer Series Champion and performed really consistently over the races. Jennifer Hunt took the final spot on the podium with 1,799 points having steadily improved throughout the Series and having her best race in the Cotswolds. Mandy Hibberd just missed out on the podium with 1,631 points and great performances in the Cotswolds and Berkshire in particular.

Open Category

Campbell Walsh had a brilliant Series, with two wins and a very close second place meaning he ended with 2,396 points (out of a maximum 2,400) to edge out Daniel Thorby (our reigning Summer Series champion) on 2,348 points. Daniel had another great Series with two third places, a second place and a win in the final race. James Brown rounded out the Series podium on 2092 points after a really solid series with Berkshire being a particularly good performance where he finished third behind Campbell and Daniel. Despite a brilliant performance and a third placed finish in the last race of the Series, Eddie Winthorpe narrowly missed out on the Series podium finishing 59 points back on 2033 points in fourth place.

Taster Category

Father and son team, Graeme & Aidan Williams won the overall Taster category with solid performances throughout and a particularly good race in Berkshire where they won the overall Taster event.

Run-only Category

Oscar Sly had a really impressive Series and won the run-only category, with Berkshire being his best performance where he won the run-only event.

Bike-only Category

Ian Cartwright had a brilliant Series winning the last three races and having the best overall points per minute score in all the events he took part in. He has promised us he will add running to his game for future events, so watch out!

Adventure Racer of the Year

Our Adventure Racer of the Year was Paul Cantrill who was one of only two racers (alongside Daniel Thorby) who completed all eight of the Summer and Winter Series of races. Paul is an incredibly experienced and consistent racer and a very worthy winner.

Adventure Racer of the Series

Alex Ward won our Adventure Racer of the Series award, she was ever-present at all of our winter races and brought a brilliant attitude and lots of smiles to our team.

What’s next?

We have really enjoyed putting on the events and planning is already well underway for another Series of four winter races starting in November. We are looking at four brand-new areas to take you to to challenge both your bodies and your minds. Where possible, we are also looking for venues with better facilities (showers, changing rooms, hoses).

More on this in the coming months!

We are also refreshing our Vets category to make this more relevant. You can read our proposed changes here and provide any comments/feedback before Sunday 10 March.

Thank you once again and we look forward to seeing you soon,

Kim and Joe
