We look forward to welcoming participants to the 2021 New Forest Adventure Race this coming Saturday.
Nothing has gone entirely to plan this year – what with Covid and everything – and this event is no different. With this in mind, please make sure you read carefully the Race Day Info document (below). Pay particular attention to the notes in the Event Base section, with regards to getting from the car park to the event base (as they are not in the same place).
NB. Please do not contact us before Saturday to ask where the Event Base is as you will not be told. You will find out where the Event Base is when you park up on Saturday. The address of where you need to head i.e. where the parking is, is given at the bottom of page 1 of the Race Day Info document.
When you find out where the Event Base is, please do not be tempted to drive and park closer to it (or tell others so they can do so). You must use the official event car park at Gang Warily. This is a condition of us being allowed to hold the event in this special part of the New Forest. Your co-operation with this is much appreciated and will help make the event run smoothly for everyone.

This provides all the information for participants about the event. It includes timings, directions and a map showing where the parking is.

Please make sure you read everything carefully, even if you’ve taken part in lots of Questars adventure races before, as each one is slightly different – and this one is no exception. If you don’t, you won’t know what to do, which is not a great start to any race!
Course Map
A copy of the course map (minus the checkpoints, of course) will be added to this page on Thursday 2 September, so participants can familiarise themselves with it, and the information contained on it, in advance.
A copy of a PREVIOUS course map (without the checkpoints) can be found below, to give you an idea of what to expect. For this event, the course map will be provided to you on two A4 sheets of waterproof paper.
You can see all the useful information that’s printed on and around the edge of the map for you to refer to during the race as necessary.
The copy of the map is only for participants to view online (click on image below to enlarge). It is not designed for you to print off as this would infringe copyright law.
CP Descriptions & Values
In addition, a blank copy of the checkpoint descriptions and values sheet will be added to this page on Thursday 2nd September. If you’ve never done a Questars adventure race before then it’s useful to have a look and familiarise yourself with the information on it. And if you are familiar with it, it’s still a good idea to have a quick look at it, as some of the notes are specific/unique to this race.
The format of the checkpoint descriptions has changed slightly from previous Questars events. They now follow a similar standard to that used by MTBO events. Where applicable, the location of the checkpoint control is given in the following order and format:
- Identifiable feature on map e.g. Footpath junction
- Where the control is in relation to this feature (on the ground) e.g. South side
- What the checkpoint control is attached to e.g. on wooden gate
Here are a couple of examples…

- Footpath/bridleway junction | North West | on fence corner

Final Word
All other details about this event (e.g. race numbers and kayak times) will be added to the event menu on this page over the coming days.
On the day, please remember to…
- Respect the area and the local community
- Be great ambassadors for adventure racing
- Stay on the permitted routes at all times
- Give way to other members of the public
- Give all animals a wide berth
- Close and properly fasten gates behind you
- Ensure that your competitive instincts do not override your common sense
Each team must carry a mobile phone (that works), a first aid kit and a whistle with them.
