With one race of our 2024/25 Adventure Race Series to go, the battle for our inaugural National Championship Jersey is really taking shape!
We have looked at the scores to date and summarised the state of play below for all of our categories.
Questars National Championship Jersey – a reminder
We will be awarding a National Championship Jersey to each of our Open, Female, Vets Open and Vets Female category winners.
The Questars National Championship covers our Summer and Winter Series and runs from our first Summer event to our last winter event. Everyone’s top-three Summer Series results and top-two Winter Series results count towards their overall score. There is a maximum of 1,000 points available at each of our Summer events and 800 points available at each of our Winter events.
Series points are calculated per individual participant/team member. If an individual’s team composition between races changes, their series points are unaffected. Individuals in teams with the same team members throughout the series will gain the same series points and ranking on the series leaderboard.
In the event of a tie at the top, head-to-head race results will be used to determine the series winner (i.e. who beat who in the races in which all the tied participants took part). If this is also tied (e.g. everyone beat each other once) then the combined times (only for these head-to-head races) will be used, with the person with the fastest cumulative time being the series champion.
Race scores are converted into series points and series points from different races are added together for each person, to give their series score.
Series points are calculated by dividing an individual’s race score by the overall race winner’s score and multiplying by 1,000 for Summer and 800 for Winter.
An example is shown below:
Pos. |
Race Score |
Series Points |
How Calculated? |
1st |
800 |
1,000 |
(800/800)*1,000 |
28th |
400 |
500 |
(400/800)*1,000 |
Calculating series points like this improves consistency throughout the series by minimising the impact of variable conditions between races which are beyond our control e.g. the weather.
Vets Scoring – a reminder
Our Vets category starts at 50 and an individual’s score is adjusted above this age with individuals receiving a 1.5% increase for every year that they are over 50. How this works is set out below:
Age |
Score |
Vets |
Calculation |
50 |
500 |
508 |
500+(500*(1*1.5%)) |
55 |
500 |
545 |
500+(500*(6*1.5%)) |
All team members take the age of their oldest team member and ages are taken as of 1 March each year. The Vets score is then adjusted by the Series scoring (set out above) to arrive at the Vets Series Score.
The state of play with one race to go
With one race still to go, there is a lot still to be decided! We have looked not only at the current leaderboard but also the leaderboard taking each individual’s Summer Series score and their best Winter Series Score (as the two best Winter scores count giving each individual opportunity to add to this). The state of play for each category is below.
Female
The battle for the jersey is incredibly close with Helen Chapman and Emma Gill almost neck and neck! Helen holds an eleven-point lead over Emma taking the best three Summer Series and the best two Winter Series race scores.

Looking at the Summer Series Score and best Winter race score, Emma goes into the final race with a nine-point lead. A really tight race and it is likely that whoever finishes on top in the Forest of Dean will take home the jersey.
