2024 WINTER Adventure Race

The countdown is on to the start of our 2024 Winter Adventure Race Series!

For those who have not raced with us before, we have put together this short video to give you a bit more information on what to expect (if viewing on a mobile device it works best when opened to full screen mode).

Without wanting to jinx things once again, the weather is looking like near perfect race conditions on Saturday – cool, dry and not much wind. There’s plenty of time for this to change between now and the weekend though and it is always recommended that you check the forecast on the morning of the event so you know what to expect. As always with racing at this time of year, we would recommend packing a waterproof layer just in case.

With the nights closing in we also recommend a small rear light, particularly if you are planning to bike last.

We look forward to seeing you at Downland Sport Centre on Saturday for a day of adventure.

Please also read all the accompanying notes below which provide further important details.

RACE NUMBERS

Your race number can be found on the start list. Do make a note of this as you will need it on race day!

event timing

Your start time is based on which course you are doing, see below. You can start at any time within your suggested start time window just make your way to the big blue start arch when you’re ready to start. Your race time (2/3/5 hour time limit) begins when you dib the start control and receive your checkpoint descriptions.

course notes

The layout of the course is such that:

  • the transition point for the run and bike is located at the event base
  • You can run and bike as many times as you like (i.e. you can run-bike, run-bike-run, etc)

How long you spend running and biking is up to you. But if you’ve never done a Questars Adventure Race, it can be difficult to know how long to run / bike for. As a rough rule, we would recommend the following (this can obviously be tailored depending on your preferred discipline):

Duo Full: 2 to 2.5 hours running; 2.5 to 3 hours mountain biking (within the 5 hour time limit)

Duo Taster: 1 to 1.5 hours running; 1.5 to 2 hours mountain biking (within the 3 hour time limit)

The above is a guide, the great thing about Questars races is that what you do is up to you! If you like running, you can spend more time running and less time biking (and vice versa).

Equally, you do not need to use all of your time limit. If you have had your fill of adventure after a couple of hours then you can join us back at HQ for food, drink and to share stories of your navigation successes and failures!
