With one race of our 2025/26 Winter Adventure Race Series to go, the battle for our National Championship Jersey is in reaching a crescendo!
We have looked at the scores to date and summarised the state of play below for all of our categories.
Questars National Championship Jersey – a reminder
We award our National Championship Jersey to each of our Open, Female, Vets Open and Vets Female category winners.
The Questars National Championship covers our Summer and Winter Series and runs from our first Summer event to our last winter event. Everyone’s top-three Summer Series results and top-two Winter Series results count towards their overall score. There is a maximum of 1,000 points available at each of our Summer events and 800 points available at each of our Winter events.
Points are calculated per individual participant/team member. If an individual’s team composition between races changes, their points are unaffected. Individuals in teams with the same team members throughout the year will gain the same points and ranking on the leaderboard.
In the event of a tie at the top, head-to-head race results will be used to determine the National Championship Jersey winner (i.e. who beat who in the races in which all the tied participants took part). If this is also tied (e.g. everyone beat each other once) then the combined times (only for these head-to-head races) will be used, with the person with the fastest cumulative time being our National Championship Jersey winner.
Race scores are converted into series points and series points from different races are added together for each person, to give their series score.
Points are calculated by dividing an individual’s race score by the overall race winner’s score and multiplying by 1,000 for Summer and 800 for Winter.
An example is shown below:
| Pos. | Race Score | Series Points | How Calculated? |
| 1st | 800 | 1,000 | (800/800)*1,000 |
| 28th | 400 | 500 | (400/800)*1,000 |
Calculating points like this improves consistency throughout the series by minimising the impact of variable conditions between races which are beyond our control e.g. the weather.
Vets Scoring – a reminder
Our Vets category starts at 50 and an individual’s score is adjusted above this age with individuals receiving a 1.5% increase for every year that they are over 50. How this works is set out below:
| Age | Score | Vets | Calculation |
| 50 | 500 | 508 | 500+(500*(1*1.5%)) |
| 55 | 500 | 545 | 500+(500*(6*1.5%)) |
All team members take the age of their oldest team member and ages are taken as of 1 March each year. The Vets score is then adjusted by the Series scoring (set out above) to arrive at the Vets Series Score.
The state of play with one race to go
With one race still to go, the destination of one jersey is already decided and there are three still to fight for. We have looked not only at the current leaderboard but also the leaderboard taking each individual’s Summer Series score and their best Winter Series Score (as the two best Winter scores count giving each individual opportunity to add to this). The state of play for each category is below.
Open
Campbell Walsh holds an unassailable lead in the race for the Jersey holding a 106-point advantage over Tom Davies who can only improve his score by 92-points. Campbell is a fantastic racer who has been really consistent through the year and is a very worthy winner of our National Championship Jersey – congratulations Campbell!
| Pos | Name | Current Score |
| 1 | Campbell Walsh | 4470 |
| 2 | Tom Davies | 4364 |
Female
Pollie Boyle currently leads the way for the Jersey with a score of 3,478 but looking at the Summer Series Score and best Winter race score, Bonnie van Wilgenburg goes into the final race with an eighteen-point lead. A really tight race and it is likely that whoever finishes on top in the Chilterns will take home the jersey.
| Pos | Name | Score (Summer Series + best winter) |
| 1 | Bonnie van Wilgenburg | 2915 |
| 2 | Pollie Boyle | 2897 |
Female Vets
With one race to go, Liz Jones and Maggie Salter hold a 74 point over Pollie Boyle and have one arm in the Jersey
| Pos | Name | Current Score |
| 1 | Maggie Salter | 3655 |
| 1= | Liz Jones | 3655 |
| 2 | Pollie Boyle | 3581 |
Looking at the Summer Series Score and best Winter race score, it is still possible for Pollie to overhaul Liz and Maggie’s score in the Chilterns so it is not all done and dusted yet! Pollie needs an adjusted Vets score of 672 points (and hope Liz and Maggie don’t improve on their score) to snatch the Jersey!
| Pos | Name | Score (Summer Series + best winter race) |
| 1 | Maggie Salter | 3061 |
| 1= | Liz Jones | 3061 |
| 2 | Pollie Boyle | 2983 |
Open Vets
Dave Salter currently holds a slender 24-point lead over Kevin Stepehens and this is a battle that will really go down to the wire!
| Pos | Name | Current Score |
| 1 | David Salter | 4251 |
| 2 | Kevin Stephens | 4227 |
Looking at the Summer Series Score and best Winter race score, it is incredibly close with a three-way battle going into the Chilterns. Dave has the advantage taking a 39-point lead over Nick Gracie and 55-point lead over Kevin. Dave has been super consistent throughout the year and goes in as slight favourite, however Kevin is our most experienced racer and is on great form and Nick has done most of his winter racing in the dark so far, having had to start at 5am to get back for his son’s rugby matches – being able to see will likely help his cause. It’s going to be fascinating to see how this one plays out in the Chilterns.
| Pos | Name | Score (Summer Series + best winter race) |
| 1 | David Salter | 3573 |
| 2 | Nick Gracie | 3534 |
| 3 | Kevin Stephens | 3518 |
