Race Day Information

Final details for those people taking part in the 2016 Dorset adventure race.


Race Numbers & Kayak Times

Your race number, start time window and kayak timeslot can all be found on the Start List - do note down these details. You can start anytime within your allocated start window.

If you are kayaking first or last you have been given a more specific start time window based upon your kayak timeslot.


Entry Amendments

Any entry amendments should now be made on the day itself - just let the Quest staff know at the front desk before the Race Briefing.



The event base will open at 0800. Please give us sufficient time to set-up by not arriving before 8am.

Facilities & Services

Facilities at the event base include:

 - Toilets, Changing Rooms & Showers

 - Food including pre race breakfast baps and post race hog roast and hot & cold drinks

 - Large Indoor Hall for collection of team packs, the race briefing and the prize giving

 - Medic on standby to provide first aid


Available to purchase on the day (cash only):

 - Map Pens - Staedtler Lumocolor fine permanent pens for marking you map - £1.80 each

 - Bike Map Boards - comes with reusable cable ties for mounting on your handlebars; bulldog clips & rubber bands for holding the map - £5 for A5, £8 for A4

 - Questars 2016 T-Shirt - technical wicking t-shirt, made from 100% polyester - £15 each (SRP £18)


Directions & Car Parking

This adventure race is based from Purbeck Sports Centre, Worgret Road, Wareham, Dorset, BH20 4PH

The Sports Centre is behind The Purbeck School, on the east side of the A351 where the A352 joins the A351 at a large roundabout (grid reference SY 914 870). Access is off the B3070 and The Purbeck School is clearly visible and sign posted from this road.

From the B3070: Turn into the school / sports centre entrance and follow the event signage / marshals instructions to the car parking area in front of the school. Follow signs and marshals instructions on where to park.

Please do share transport if possible. If each team comes in one vehicle it’ll be much kinder to the environment and you’ll also be able to talk team tactics on the way!



On Arrival

Make your way around the back to the Sports Hall.

Grab a bite to eat and drink from All Stars Cafe upstairs.

There is no registration - collect your team pack from around the edge of the hall at the appropriate time. These will be laid out in numerical order. If your team pack is not there, come to the Front Desk.

Each team pack contains:
1 course map (printed on waterproof paper and pre marked with all the available checkpoints)
1 race number (to be worn by one member of each team - must be clearly visible)
4 safety pins (for attaching your race number)
1 EMIT card (electronic scoring device)
1 piece of cord (to secure your EMIT card)
1 plastic wallet (to protect your map)

You will be given the checkpoint descriptions and values (printed on waterproof paper) as you start.

At the appropriate time, attend the race briefing.

Before you start, put your bike in the designated area along with anything else you need during the race.


After the Race

Proceed immediately to the download station (in the hall). Remove the cord and hand in your EMIT card. You’ll receive a printout showing your total time and the checkpoints you visited. Check this carefully and let us know before the prize giving if any checkpoints you visited don't appear on your print out.

This print out will not show your score - these will be announced at the prize giving in the sports hall and put up on display afterwards.

The All Stars Cafe team will be serving hog roast rolls with hot & cold drinks outside near the finish.

Changing rooms and showers will be available if you wish to use them.

A medic will be on standby throughout the day. If you pick up any minor injuries do see them afterwards as prompt attention can aid rapid recovery.

Prizes are awarded to each person in the winning team, in each of the ten different race classes. There are up to £1000 worth of prizes up for grabs, thanks to the support from our event partners: Clif Bar, Muc-OffStiqueBCH Camping & MapDec.

• Respect the area and the local community
• Be great ambassadors for adventure racing
• Stay on existing paths and tracks at all times
• Give way to members of the public
• Give all animals a wide berth
