If you are taking part in the 2021 Wiltshire Downs Adventure Race, your race number, suggested start time and kayak time slot can all be found on the start list. Do make a note of these details – you’ll need them on race day!
Please also read all the accompanying notes below which provide further important details.
You will need to know your race number (on the Start List) in order to collect your race pack. We recommend you also bring your entry ID number with you and/or a form of ID in case we need to verify you are who you say are.
In your race pack will be a tyvek wristband with your race number on. One member of your team needs to wear this throughout the race. Whoever wears your numbered wristband will be required to show it to the marshals at the start, kayak transition (both when getting on and off the water) and at the finish.
You will see that each team has been given a suggested start time (on the Start List). This is a recommendation and is included as a guide only. It is based on the following…
- your kayak slot time
- you probably want to allow an hour (or more) to cycle to or back from the kayaking (visiting bike checkpoints on the way)
- the course closes at 17:30 (you must finish by 17:30 so Masters who wish to use the full 6 hours need to have started by 11:30 and Novices who wish to use the full 5 hour time limit need to have started by 12:30).
But ultimately, you can choose when you start. Make your way to the big yellow inflatable arch when you’re ready to start. Your race time (5/6 hour time limit) begins when you place your electronic scorecard (EMIT card) on the start control.
Kayak Slot Times
The maximum time allowed for the kayaking is 60 minutes. This is the same for everyone irrespective of your kayak slot time. Exceed 60 minutes (even by 1 second) and you will get a 50 point kayaking penalty.
You can only kayak within your kayak time slot. You must have finished kayaking (i.e. be back at the kayak transition and off the water) before the end of your kayak time slot. So if you turn up at the kayak transition midway through your kayak time slot, you’ll only have the remaining bit of your kayak time slot in which to visit kayak checkpoints.
NB. This event has sold out and all the kayak places have been filled so, unfortunately, it is not possible to make any changes to kayak times now. Kayak slots have been allocated in order that participants entered, with those kayak slots deemed to be more favourable and/or flexible given to those that entered first. We’re sorry if this doesn’t suit you, but allocating times and preparing the start list is quite a logistical challenge. And making changes now simply isn’t compatible with the event running smoothly and safely for everyone on the day.
