The Rivette QUESTars Adventure Race Series

Wiltshire Downs Adventure Race

Race Day Information

Final details for the 2018 Wiltshire Downs adventure race participants.

Race Numbers & Kayak Times

Your race number, start time and kayak timeslot can all be found on the Start List - do make a note of these details - you'll need them on the day.

If you are kayaking first you will see that you have been given a specific start time. Please come to the start at least 2 minutes before this so we can start you on time.

Everyone else has been given a start time window. You can choose when you start within this time window. Come to the start when you are ready.

The maximum time allowed for the kayaking is 65 mins for Masters and 70 mins for Novices (this includes getting on and off the water - allow 5 minutes for this to be on the safe side). You must not exceed the maximum time limit OR be late off the water (after your kayak timeslot has ended) otherwise you will incur a 50 point penalty.

Not sure how to fit everything in around your kayak timeslot? See the course planners guide for one way (a suggestion of how) you could do this.

Entry Amendments

Any entry amendments should now be made on the day itself - just let The Quest Team know at the front desk before your Race Briefing.

Timings

Temperatures in the high twenties are forecast for Saturday. In view of this, the timings have been brought forward slighty to take advantage of the relatively cooler temperatures earlier on in the day and to reduce the time that you spend out in the hottest part of the day.

The event base will open at 0715. Please give us sufficient time to set-up by not arriving before this.

Regular / experienced Novice & Duo teams that wish to start early so they can get away to watch a certain football match are welcome to attend the Masters briefing at 0830 and start after the Masters between 0930 and 0945 if they want. Kayak slot times will remain the same regardless of when you start. If you have never done a Questars adventure race before, then you should attend the Novices & Duo briefing at 0930 as this will cover everything in more detail.

Directions & Car Parking

This adventure race is based from St Francis School, Marlborough Road, Pewsey, Wiltshire, SN9 5NT

The school is on the west side of the A345, just south of the Kennet & Avon canal. The entrance to the school is at grid reference SU 157 610.

Once on site, follow signage and/or marshals directions.

Please share transport if possible. If each team comes in one vehicle it’ll be much kinder to the environment and you’ll also be able to talk team tactics on the way!

When you come to leave, DO NOT exit the school via the same entrance (you can not see if any traffic is coming along the busy A-road), follow the one-way signs on site and use the exit a little further down the A345.

The map below shows where things are at the event base.

On Arrival

Make your way to the Event HQ in the Sports Hall (see map above).

Grab a bite to eat and drink from The Quest Kitchen

There is no registration - collect your team pack from around the edge of the hall at the appropriate time. These will be laid out in numerical order. If your team pack is not there or if you have paid for a t-shirt, come to the Front Desk to collect it.

Please note the team packs are slightly different this year in an attempt to make things easier for you, better for us and to cut down on unnecessary waste - in particular plastic packaging.

Each team race pack contains:
1 course map - with all the checkpoints marked on; printed on waterproof paper
1 EMIT card - electronic scoring device
1 numbered wristband - to be worn by one member of each team (who'll carry the EMIT card)
1 piece of cord - to secure your EMIT card

You will be given the checkpoint descriptions and values (printed on waterproof paper) as you start.

At the appropriate time, attend the event briefing.

Before you start, put your bike in the transition area on the sports field together with anything else you need during the race.

After the Race

Proceed immediately to the download station (in the sports hall). Remove the cord and hand in your EMIT card. You’ll receive a printout showing your total time and the checkpoints you visited. Check this carefully and let us know before the prize giving if any checkpoints you visited don't appear on your print out.

The print out will not show your score - these are calculated when everyone's finished and will be announced at the prize giving in the hall and put up on display afterwards.

Eating soon after you finish is proven to aid recovery. The Quest Kitchen will be serving chilli with hot & cold drinks.

Changing rooms and showers are available in the sports hall if you wish to use them.

A medic will be on standby throughout the day. If you pick up any minor injuries do see them afterwards as prompt attention can aid rapid recovery.

Prizes are awarded to each person in the winning team, in each of the ten different race classes. There are up to £1000 worth of prizes to be won, thanks to the support from our event partners...

  • Likeys - quality outdoor clothing and equipment
  • Clif Bar - organic energy products
  • Amphibia - innovative watersports gear
  • MapDec - products and services for cyclists
  • Stique - innovative bike tools
