Final details for those people taking part in the 2017 South Downs adventure race.

Race Numbers & Kayak Times

Your race number, start time window and kayak timeslot can all be found on the Start List - do make a note of these details - you'll need them on the day.

You can start anytime within your start time window but remember if you are kayaking in one of the first or last timeslots you need to allow enough time to get to / back from the kayak transition - approximately 9 km direct on roads (flat) or up to 17 km via Mt Bike checkpoints (planner's route).

The maximum time allowed for the kayaking is 60 minutes.

 

Entry Amendments

Any last minute team changes now need to be made on the day itself - just let the Quest Team know at the front desk before the Race Briefing.

The event base will open at 0800. Please give us sufficient time to set-up by not arriving before this.

Facilities & Services

Facilities at the event base include:

Directions & Car Parking

The event base for this adventure race is Hove Park Valley Campus, Hangleton Way, Hove, BN3 8AA

The school entrance is signed and is on the west side of Hangleton Way (grid reference TQ 267 065).

There is a limited amount of parking available on site (as the school is also being used by a number of other groups on the same day). Once all the places on site are full, you will need to park on the roads near the school. There is plenty of on street parking close by.

Once on site, follow signage and marshals directions. Car parking will be tight so please do share transport if possible. Park close to the vehicle next to you (so you can't open your door all the way). Please do not block any access routes or drive on the grass.

A marshal will advise you when all the car parking spaces on site have been filled and you will need to find somewhere to park in the surrounding area. There is plenty of room for parking down the side of the neighbouring roads. Please park considerately so as not to cause an obstruction or upset the local residents - this means parking on the same side of the road to everyone else (unless of course the road is wide enough for two-way traffic and parking on both sides).

On Arrival

Make your way to the event HQ in the Sports Hall (see map above).

Grab a bite to eat and drink from The Quest Kitchen

There is no registration - collect your team pack from around the edge of the hall at the appropriate time. These will be laid out in numerical order. If your team pack is not there or if you have paid for a T-shirt, come to the Front Desk to collect it.

Each team pack contains:
1 course map - printed on waterproof paper and pre-marked with all the available checkpoints
1 race number - to be worn by one member of each team (must be clearly visible)
4 safety pins - for attaching your race number
1 EMIT card - electronic scoring device
1 piece of cord - to secure your EMIT card
1 plastic wallet - to protect your map

You will be given the checkpoint descriptions and values (printed on waterproof paper) as you start.

At the appropriate time, attend the race briefing.

Before you start, put your bike in the bike transition along with anything else you need during the race.

 

After the Race

Proceed immediately to the download station (in the hall). Remove the cord and hand in your EMIT card. You’ll receive a printout showing your total time and the checkpoints you visited. Check this carefully and let us know before the prize giving if any checkpoints you visited don't appear on your print out.

This print out will not show your score - these will be announced at the prize giving in the sports hall and put up on display afterwards.

Eating soon after you finish is proven to aid recovery. The Quest Kitchen team will be serving hot food & drinks in the hall.

Changing rooms and showers are available in the school if you wish to use them.

A medic will be on standby throughout the day. If you pick up any minor injuries do see them afterwards as prompt attention can aid rapid recovery.

Prizes are awarded to each person in the winning team, in each of the ten different race classes. There are up to £1000 worth of prizes to be won, thanks to the support from our event partners...
