The Rivette QUESTars Adventure Race Series

Questars 360

Thames Ridgeway Challenge

Event Details

The Questars 360 Thames Ridgeway challenge is an epic adventure racing journey which takes you along iconic routes through the beautiful north Wiltshire and south Oxfordshire countryside.

Run alongside and kayak down England's longest river and bike back along Britain's oldest road for over 70 km of marvellous uninterrupted off road cycling!

Ideally suited to teams of 2 and 4 people, you choose whether to do the challenge non-stop in 24 hrs or over two days with a break overnight. The event takes place on the weekend of Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 June 2016 to make best use of the long daylight hours coupled with a full moon.

Places are limited by the number of kayaks available and demand for these is likely to be high, so early entry is strongly recommended.

Entry Information

Entries are now closed - please contact us to see if any places are available (e.g. if any teams withdraw)

Enter as a men's, ladies or mixed team of 2 or 4 people.

Prices per person are as follows...

Teams of four £176 / Teams of two £188 - up until entries close at end of May

In order to keep entry fees down, the price does not include the cost of processing card payments. The 3.95% fee for card payments can be avoided by paying directly by bank transfer.

Unlike some other events, there are no additional charges that you have to pay for hiring electronic timing chips, car parking, onward / return transport etc. - see everything that's included below.

What's Included?

In a nutshell: everything! The start and finish is in the same place so, unlike many other similar events which are linear (rather than circular), you don't have to worry about getting back to your car after you finish, saving you time and money. And kit transfers are provided throughout so there's no requirement for you to provide your own support crew and vehicle. The following gives you an idea of what is included...

+ Parking at event base throughout the event
+ Camping outside at the event base (Fri & Sat nights)
+ Toilets and indoor space to sort kit at Stage 2-3 transition
+ Camping outside at Stage 2-3 transition (2-day teams)
+ Boiling water for hot drinks and instant food / meals

+ Hire of kayak, buoyancy aids & paddles
+ Transport of hired kayaks
+ Transport of all buoyancy aids & paddles
+ Licence for kayaking on the River Thames

+ Transfer of kit bag to / from transition points
+ Transfer of bike during Stage 2

+ Professionally marked and printed waterproof route maps
+ GPX file of the route
+ Electronic tracking and timing
+ Water at transition points
+ Finishers medal
+ VAT at 20%

Cushioned backrests for the sit-on-top kayaks - the same as or equivalent to these - can be hired as an optional extra, if you would like the added comfort and support that these provide.

Bikes need to be suitable for off road use. Mountain bikes are therefore recommended.

Bike bags / boxes aren't compulsory but they are recommended to protect your bike during transit. Standard size bike bag / boxes only please (i.e. wheels off inside).

Bikes not in bike bags / boxes will be stood up against each other. We will handle them with care but they may move around a bit during transit. If you are worried about your bike / frame being marked, it is your responsibility to ensure it is adequately packaged and protected for transportation.

If there are several people that would like to hire a mountain bike then this can be arranged. Please contact us to let us know if you would like to hire a mountain bike for this event.

Two-person sit-on-top kayaks are provided - one for each team. See how this works for a team of 4.

Paddles & buoyancy aids are also provided. You can use your own paddle / buoyancy aid if you prefer.

You must have kayaked before and know what you are doing otherwise you will struggle. You need to be confident getting on and off the water. If in doubt do a one-day adventure race and see how you get on.

Non-stop teams are likely to finish the kayaking in the dark. Teams taking a break overnight can stop when it gets dark and bivi / camp on the river bank (there are plenty of places to do so).

Live Tracking

We plan to use lightweight trackers from Open Tracking for this event. Each team will carry a small tracker which transmits their current location. This is automatically displayed on a map, along with the route you have taken, so friends and family can follow your progress online.
