This is the first time we have held an adventure race in this part of the UK, so we hope regular Questars participants will be excited as we are by going somewhere new!

Event Details

This, the second event in the 2013 Questars Adventure Race Series, takes place in the Thames Valley, in Oxfordshire, not far from the city of Oxford itself.

The event base is in a nice secluded wood, not far from the River Thames, providing good access to the surrounding area.

This multi-stage two-day adventure race called Q2 The Quest Challenge is designed to appeal to everyone from complete novices to the most experienced adventure racers. There will be a great deal of choice as to the distances and routes taken to enable everyone to set their own level of challenge. And there will be time to rest and recover between the various stages.

Those who have done several Q2 adventure races in the past will know that each one is slightly different, and this challenge will be no exception, so expect a few surprises along the way.

Event Base

Facilities Available

Car parking area and indoor room for registration, the race briefing and prize giving. There are also toilet blocks on site with showers in them.

Participants can camp in the event field. Those who don't want to camp can stay in basic bunkhouse accommodation on site (subject to availability) or find their own local accommodation. This event is designed so you can easily stay off site if you'd prefer.

Event Timings - Provisional

The timetable below is given as an example only. Whilst some of the stage details may alter slightly, the overall event timings are unlikely to change.

FRIDAY

1800 - Event base and campsite opens
2000 - Registration opens until 2130

SATURDAY

0800 - Registration re-opens until 0850
0900 - Event briefing (lasts approx. 20 mins)
1000 - Stage 1 starts
1300 - Stage 1 latest finish time
1530 - Stage 2 starts
1800 - Stage 2 latest finish time
2030 - Stage 3 starts (night navigation on foot)
2145 - Stage 3 latest finish time

SUNDAY

0845 - Stage 4 starts for Masters participants
0930 - Stage 4 starts for Novice participants
1400 - Stage 4 latest finish time (all participants)
1430 - Prize giving & results announced

Stages 1, 2 & 4 will involve varying amounts of trail running, mountain biking and kayaking (though not necessarily all three in each stage). Stage 3 takes place at night on foot.

Exact timings and stage details will be confirmed in the final details for this adventure race, and these will be posted on the Questars website noticeboard in the week prior to the event.

Enter as a team of 4, 3, 2 or as a solo. The choice is yours!

An early bird discounted price of £79 is available until the 31 January 2013. Thereafter the entry fee will be £89 per person. As with all Q2 races, camping and car parking is included as is the provision and use of kayaks, paddles and bouyancy aids.

Online entries close one week before race day if places haven't already sold out. Places are strictly limited by the number of kayak places available so do enter early to avoid missing out.

Bike Hire

A local bike hire company is able to deliver hire bikes to the event base and collect them again afterwards. They only have a couple of mountain bikes available as the bulk of their hire fleet are hybrid bikes. Please contact us before you enter this race if you need to hire a bike so we can advise you accordingly and give you the details of the bike hire firm.

Accommodation

There are three different accommodation options, as follows:

CAMPING ONSITE

Race entrants are welcome to camp at the event base on both Friday and Saturday night. Parking, drinking water, toilets and space to pitch tents is provided. You will need to bring your own camping equipment i.e. tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat etc. We aim to have a caterer on site throughout the weekend so you don’t need to bring cooking equipment unless you want to.

BUNKHOUSE ONSITE

We are pleased to be able to offer basic bunkhouse accommodation onsite for those that would rather not camp. There is a small additional charge for this. A bed in a shared room is provided. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag / bed linen and a duvet. Book a bed when you enter online if you want residential accommodation on site. Please do this earlier rather than later as there are only a limited number of beds available.

Sorry but all available beds for the Saturday night have now been taken. There are still a couple of beds left for overnight on Friday though - please contact us if you would like one of these and have already entered this adventure race.

OFFSITE

If you do not wish to stay onsite then there are alot of alternative accommodation options nearby. The timing of the stages is such that participants can return to their local accommodation between stages if they want.
