Q2 The Quest Challenge

Thetford Forest

Background :

Known as Q2 The Quest Challenge this weekend event is based in the largest lowland forest in England on the Suffolk / Norfolk borders and will include an event campsite at the event base.

Like the one day Questars, Q2 The Quest Challenge is designed to appeal to all comers from complete novices to the most experienced adventure racers. There'll be a great deal of choice as to the distances and routes taken to enable everyone to set their own level of challenge. There’ll be rest and recovery time between the various parts that will comprise this multi stage event. 

Expect varied stage formats and challenges. These will be combined with some great mountain biking, trail running and kayaking over some tremendous terrain offering great variety and views.

Quest is greatly looking forward to bringing a Q2 The Quest Challenge event to Thetford Forest. This event format will appeal to adventure racers of all levels and to corporate teams looking for a fresh challenge.

Event Base & Facilities :

Q2 The Quest Challenge is based at Little Lodge Farm, Santon Downham near Brandon, Suffolk

The event base and camp site is very well located adjacent to the Little Ouse River. Its in the heart of The Brecks which includes both extensive lowland forests, heathland and varied countryside. There are toilets but no showers.

You don't have to camp if you don't wish to. There are lots of altenative accommodation options locally - see the accommodation section below.

Catering will be on site to provide participants with meals, drinks and refreshments throughout the weekend. 

Provisional Timings & Stage Details : 

Friday : Event base and campsite opens at 1800. Team Registration 2000 - 2130

Saturday : Those not camping arrive in time for Team Registration between 0800 and 0900

Event Briefing 0915 - 0935

Stage 1  : 1010 - 1330 including trail running and various challenges

Rest and recovery 1330 - 1530



Stage 2 : 1530 - 1800 including biking and kayaking

Rest and recovery 1800 - 2030

Stage 3 : 2030 - 2145 a night running stage with a few surprises en route

Sunday :

Stage 4 : 0845 - 1345 run, bike and kayak - play to your strengths and keep alert for some extra challenges

Results, Prize Giving and departure : 1430


Final details of this event including Team Lists, Start Times and other specific information will be posted onto the Questars website noticeboard and sent to teams by email in the week prior to the event.

Race Price :

Q2 The Quest Challenge's price includes all the usual things you can expect at a Questars plus two nights camping at the event campsite. Car parking is also included. An early bird discounted price of £79 is available until 31 December 2010. Thereafter the entry fee will be £89 per person. Enter as a team of 4, 3, 2 or as a solo. The choice is yours!

Entries close on Sunday 25 September 2011 if not already sold out. The number of places available are strictly limited and these often sell out well before the closing date, so make sure you enter early to avoid missing out.

Bike Hire :

Bikes for this adventure race can be hired from Bike Art who are based at the High Lodge Forest Centre in the middle of Thetford Forest. Hire bikes will need to be collected from High Lodge Forest Centre which is approximately 3-4 km from the event base.

Accommodation :

Camping at the event base on both Friday and Saturday is included in the event price for participants. Parking, drinking water, toilets and space to pitch tents is provided. You will need to bring your own camping equipment i.e. tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat etc. Onsite catering facilities will be provided throughout the weekend so you don’t need to bring cooking equipment unless you want to.

If you do not wish to camp then there are alternative accommodation options in nearby Brandon, Thetford and other villages. The length of time between stages enables teams to return to their local accommodation during Saturday and overnight.
